ABOUT US

The Nestlé Foundation for the Study of Problems of Nutrition in the World was established in 1966 by a donation by the Nestlé company on the occasion of its centenary. It operates as a fully independent entity from an academic, governance and strategic standpoint. It initiates and supports research in human nutrition with public health relevance in low-income and lower middle-income countries, as defined according to the World Bank classification (see http://www.worldbank.org).

The Nestlé Foundation exists because nutrition plays a fundamental role in human development. It influences how children grow, how communities function, and how societies develop. When nutrition is inadequate, health and development are compromised. When it improves, opportunities expand.

We do not simply study nutrition from a distance. Our researchers live in places where hunger and malnutrition take their toll. Our grants support the work that matters most. We fund researchers who ask difficult questions. We support communities building their own solutions. We believe in evidence, but we also believe in the wisdom of people who have lived with these problems their entire lives.

Change takes time. It takes partnership. It takes courage to try new approaches and humility to learn from failure. This is the work we do, day after day, across the globe.
